LEAGUE INFORMATION
Organized table tennis in the form of a league competition can be
challenging as well as entertaining. The P&W Aircraft club singles league
tournament will begin the first week of November 2009 and continued through April
2010. League matches will be played every Wednesdays unless there is a closure
or other unforeseen events. The league shall be conducted on a monthly cycle
with prizes going to anyone with two or more group winnings. Grand
prizes will also be awarded at the end of competition in April 2010. A
monthly registration fee of $15.00 is required for play, prorated after the 2nd
week of competition. All levels of play, recreational players to the more
serious players are all welcome. Opportunity to compete regularly, opportunity
to promote camaraderie, opportunity to establish a club rating/ranking profile
is some of the objectives of these organized and informal tournaments.
Competition shall be singles matches in a round-robin format.
At the beginning of each tournament, players will start with their acquired
rating or be given an estimated club rating/ranking. Adjustments to players'
rating shall be made after each league tournaments using similar aspects of the
USATT rating formula. On league night players shall be broken down into groups
of 4-5 in order of ranking. The league coordinator shall start off with a
print-out of all potential league players along with the newly registered
players. The top 4-5 ranking members in the list who showed up for competition
shall be placed in the 1st division/group, the next 4-5 in the 2nd group and so
on down the list. Players will play all other members in their group. The
primary goal is to win the group and to improve one's ranking, but just being
able to perform at one's relative best accordingly, is a challenge worth
considering. All matches shall be best of five games.
Each week the top finishers of each group/division shall move one
placement up, at the same time the lowest finishers shall move one placement
down. This normally would result in one player moving up a division and one
player moving down a division, but as players are added or removed weekly from
competition, this may not necessarily apply. Grand prizes are being considered
for the following positions when the league ends in April 2010.
1. Best finisher (player with the most group winnings)
2. Most improved (player with remarkable upward movement)
3. Good sportsmanship (fair and considerate)
4. Most frequent player (regular participation)
