Aircraft Table Tennis 2009-10 League

Six players showed up on Wednesday, November 9 for week two of the league competition. Two additional members Kim Nguyen and Emad Mina joined four other members who previously played in week one tournament, to make a single group of six competitors. The league now has seven registered players, including Coach Ernest Virgo. The league is a good opportunity for players to measure their personal game against others and then work to make the necessary changes for improvement. These organized matches are also being used to establish ratings and club ranking.

Players rating s at the start of competition were: Tuan N(1815) Mikhail G (1801) Kim N(1800) Victor P(1785) Mike M(1597) and Emad M(1400)  At the end of the tournament and with all matches completed, two players were tied for 1st through 2nd place with a 4-1 record and another two for 4th through 5th place with a 2-3 result. Using the club preferred tie breaking procedure which stated that if two or more players of a group gain the same number of match points , their relative positions shall be determined by the results only of the matches involving those tied. In a two way tie, the winner of the match between the tied players shall be the winner of the higher position for which tied. Kim and Tuan both finished with 9 match points but on account of KN win over TN in group competition, KN ended up the winner of week two tournament. MG is nursing a sore back placing 3rd with a 3-2 record.

The rating and ranking format is being used solely as a guide giving players the opportunity to track their progress in an organized and competitive arena. Attempt will be made to make adjustments after each tournament and at this time I would like to congratulate Tuan N and Mike M who have both improved on their respective and estimated rating of 1800 and 1600 from week one to 1820 and 1635 respectively. Again everyone is encouraged to participate in these fun but competitive and organized events regardless of your level of play. The more players, the more the group are evenly divided.
